Child Ceramic Sculpture by Perignem Amphora, Black, Belgium, 1970s

Pottery sculpture of a child in red clay, hand-painted in black metallic glaze, which is the signature of the Belgian art pottery house Perignem Amphora. The volume and stylistic approach today recalls Disney’s 3D cartoons characters, which are strongly inspired by this style of 1970s art and illustration aesthetic. This, coupled with the black glaze with metallic reflections, emphasizes its unique naif and modern Romanticism. The soft and determined facial lines bring to life the sculpture. A rare piece from Belgium’s 1970s bearing strong emotions.
