Mid-Century European Wall Crucifix in Ceramic, White, Sienna, 1950s

Large, mid-century European crucifix in ceramic, made in Belgium in the 1950s. Beige and rust-colored Christ forming a cross. The head stares towards the bottom in a similar way to the Art Deco sculpture Christ the Redeemer over Rio de Janeiro that probably inspired the artist. When a few lines say a lot; a very charismatic piece.

A one-of-a-kind, handcrafted piece that is part of a large collection of crosses made by Belgian artisan potters from the 1950s to 1970s. A unique decorative item for anyone interested in distinctive folk art or religious items as home decor.

DIMENSIONS

11 in. H x 9.5 in. W x 2 in. D

28 cm H x 24 cm W x 5 cm D

This crucifix would fit perfectly in a Le Corbusier building, a clear bright loft or a sunny countryside cabin or doorstep. It's raw honesty designates it to both the wild nature and the minimal city home.

This piece has been curated from a large European ceramic crucifix collection. From modernism to brutalism, the unique pieces range from being as futurist as a modernist church to as raw as a brutalist building. Each artist offered a different take on the representation of faith through volumes and colors.

The collection offers an excellent selection for composing a custom wall of modernist crucifixes.
